Case Study: RED PLANET TARGETING DELIVERS AN INCREASE IN QANTAS AIRLINE SALES

Business Challenge

Qantas 'Early Bird' sale was launched in Sept-Oct 2014 with the aim to increase flight bookings

Approach

We ran a targeted campaign via Programmatic Display and specific social media targeting, over 10 days..

Results

Analysis showed that:
  • A standard non-targeted campaign would have delivered a sales uplift of approximately 21%
  • Red Planet targeting delivered a further baseline uplift in sales of approximately 7% which resulted in a total baseline sales uplift of approximately 28% for the campaign

When comparing Red Planet's target segments against specific social media targeting we also saw outstanding performance, in particular:

  • 70% increase in average spend per booking, generated per click
  • 51% improvement on cost per acquisition per booking, generated per click
  • Red Planet social media targeting delivered 19.3 x ROI vs other social media targeting delivering 5.5 x ROI test

Increasing member engagement in the Dymocks Booklover loyalty program by targeting members with relevant offers.

Approach

  • Identify previous high-value members with declining engagement
  • Profile members based on their past purchase behaviour, and identify the book titles that have been purchased by members with similar profiles
  • Test and learn from various campaign offers (double points, discounts etc.)

Results

Analysis showed that:
  • 418% improvement in open rates for targeted EDMs (compared to non-targeted)
  • Open rate as high as 50% on an individual targeted campaign
  • 30% lift in conversions
  • Achieved year on year sales growth
